Cooking with your kids and money management

> >
One of the best ways to get kids to eat healthy is using good cookbooks for kids that have great recipes in them. You can teach your children how to prepare meals and snacks that are healthy and sane, not only for your family, but for them as well.
Have you ever stopped to think that cooking with your kids is a great way to help teach them money management skills?
when you walk through the cookbook with your children, take a moment to look at some of the ingredients in the recipes. When you are preparing to cook with your kids, chances are that you need to pick up a few extra items at the supermarket for your meal. So, here are a few thoughts in trying to help your kids to understand what choices you  have when shopping at the supermarket.
First, try to create a budget for your meal or grocery trip. If your children see you have a certain amount of money to spend at the grocery store, they will understand that food purchases are not unlimited.Attention should be paid to each item and it should be created as a "necessity" or a "want".
Secondly, show them how the various sizes of items compare in prices.Sometimes you can get more value to buy items you use the most in bulk or less value when you buy stuff per item ,sometimes if you aren't going to use or cook all your items up before it expires, you can waste a lot of it to.Big lesson here to "waste not, want not".So message to your kids is you have to work it all out and weigh everything up before you purchase your items.
Finally, let your children pay the cashier. help them to count the money out, so they can see what it costs and takes to prepare a meal. This will show your kids that theres more going on than they first realized ,and will appreciate you more when it comes to cooking there dinner in the kitchen.
These are just a few ideas about how to manage your money and shopping when your with your kids. Cook books for kids can be so much more than just recipes!
